DJ Premier tonight in Helsinki
Was it yesterday when this party's promoter posted the first advertisement to Basso's forum. People couldn't believe that it was true until Primo himself put the flyer on his Myspace profile. Anyway DJ Premier is performing tonight at The Tiger with 5€ entry.
Here's few of my favorite Primo productions videos:
Show&AG - Next Level (DJ Premier's Nyte Time remix)
Gang Starr - Ex Girl to Next Girl
Fat Joe - The shit is real (remix)
Crooklyn Dodgers 95 - Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers
Nas - Represent

High Culture Under Ground by Tatu Engeström
This time we'll keep it strictly underground. I definately have to give props to the artist Tatu Engeström for throwing up one of the most memorable parties in a while. The party was part of his installation that he referred to as the "temple of sin" which is his BA project for the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Among the DJ's in charge of the entertainment were Enrico (of Komposti Sound) and the local legend Dead-O, so plenty of bass was on offer.
The setting for the event was an abandoned freight train tunnel that runs under one of the busiest streets in the city, Mäkelänkatu. Actually the tunnel is better known as one of the three tunnels in the area that is commonly referred to as "Pasilan Galleria", the most legendary hall of fame in the country. The invitations didn't have any address, so the only way of knowing the location was by word of mouth (or being a writer!), but still a large crowd showed up. And of course where there's a crowd, the cops somehow manage to show up before the event has even started...luckily the poor constables were too afraid to step into the tunnel and settled for just complaining about the van parked outside.
Tatu installation consisted of pilars painted in white to represent a temple along with a painting on the ceiling depecting the snake in the garden of eden with an apple in it's mouth, an adaptation of the fresco in Tampere Cathedral by famous finnish painter Hugo Simberg. And of course, as the name of the event suggests, high culture was involved with a violinist and organist playing some classical music to get you in the highbrow mood. After that it was all about beer, bass and socialising.
Much thanks to Tatu for making things happen and the dj's and people involved who made it into one of the most memorable events I've witnessed!
(And for the Finnish people out there, be sure to check out todays Helsingin Sanomat which has a small article about the event!)
Here's a few pictures taken with my very crappy compact:
The start didn't look that good with the cops showing up...
The view from the tunnel. Getting out proved to be a bit tricky once darkness settled in...
(at least for those who enjoyed too many of the "refreshments" on offer)
First performance of the night.
The "fresco" by Tatu Engeström.
The original by Hugo Simberg in Tampere Cathedral.

Scans from the 90's
I went to dig Lifesaver's (www.lifesaver.net) record crates, but under them i found a stack of 90's rap magazines, Rap Pages, The Source & Stress. I got 9 magazines for 1,20€. Sweet.
Here's couple scans. To be continued later:
Rap Pages February 24 1997 "Travelling man"
Rap Pages February 24 "Rolling Stone - Redman sings the blues"
The Source January 1995 "Lords of the Underground"
The Source January 1995 "The best records of the year '94"
The Source February 1996 "Heavy rotation & Best buys"
The Source August 1996 "Dress code - hip hop gear banned..."

Early Promoe on Boulevard Connection / Fondle'em
Promoe was on a Fondle'em release "Boulevard Connection - Sut min pik" in 1998 (Grado DJ200i/+18dB):
Denmark Style
Here's an early Promoe feat that many doesn't know even to exist. The track itself is very nice, but unfortunately sound quality of it sucks hard. Propably that's why it's named "demo" (Grado DJ200i/+18dB):
Continously ('97 demo)
Speech Defect - Tool Rap / Superfuture remix (ft. Ugly Duckling) 12"
Here's a japan only release from a swedish crew "Speech Defect" (Boogie-B, Prao-D & Mr. Linus).
downloadTatyana Ali - Boy you knock me out
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004700/
RNB TIME! One of my favorite 90's RNB joints. The 12" never came across to me and i couldn't find a decent rip, so i got a maxi cd from Ebay just to rip it. Here ya go.
Troubleneck Brothers - Back to the Hip Hop 12" + exclusive remix
First of all this 12" was very hard to find in a decent price, but i somehow happened to get 2 copies. I was lucky i guess. This one's propably the only high quality rip out there, so enjoy.
Ripped again with Ortofon OM Night Club mk2 and Audio 8 (+6dB phono gain). No post production of course.

PLUS as a bonus for you all, here's my homie DJ Leo Luxxxus' remix:

Lord Finesse - Real Talk (Lark Chillout remix)
A japanese remix from 2007 of a japanese release. B-Side of this 12" isn't really even close as good as original, so i didn't bother recording it. I used Ortofon OM Night Club mk2 -cartridge and plugged my SL-1200mk2 straight to Audio 8 -interface (+6dB phono gain). So no DJ-mixers in the middle of the audio chain here. No post production. Very clear and crisp rip imho, here ya go (320kbps CBR's of course).

Looptroop - Spraycan Stories
This one's from my favorite Looptroop LP "From the Wax Cabinet". This album was originally released as a C-cassette, but later released as a vinyl limited to 300 and they're all hand numbered, mine's #25/300. This is ripped with Technics SL-1200mk2 turntable, Grado DJ200i cartridge, Ecler HAK360 mixer and Audio 8 -interface. This is definitely nowhere near perfect vinyl rip, but it's still the best one out there of this song. I'll hook you up with another file that will be ripped with a different cartridge later.
Here's a high quality 320kbps CBR
